Message from Anne Pappas
Proud parent of a 2020 Grad & Chair, 2020 Grad PAC committee
A very special note of thanks to everyone who made June 24th and 25th 2020 so fantastically memorable. It is hard to believe that we managed to create such a wonderful experience that was full of smiles and wonder amongst both our graduates and their parents alike.
To the exceptional people who travelled this unpredictable journey with me on the 2020 Grad OBHS PAC sub-committee I send you a big "virtual hug" and a very loudly shouted "thank you".
The entire program was created amidst the Covid -19 global pandemic and was fraught with constantly changing public health regulations and guidelines. Yes, it was a huge amount of work in very trying circumstances, with lots of people working in the background all the time it would seem.
The grad formal photos taken by parent and professional photographer Carla Unger at Craigdarroch Castle are simply breathtaking. Thank you to our special guests who attended at the pop ups, you brought the element of surprise and unexpected delight to the grads. Kudos to the many teachers and staff who lined the street socially distanced and waving as we drove by in our mini cavalcades.
The grad gear designed by 2020 Grad Ben Johns sold out on the first run and orders for t-shirts and hoodies surpassed our expectations. We will be making a donation to the Mustard Seed, having pledged $5 from the sale of every hoodie and t-shirt to support our local community during these challenging times.
Having the Diploma Drive Through set up on six stages was brilliant and Vice Principal Phil Ohl and his team at the school deserve special applause for their efforts and creativity. Heads up Phil: “more than one parent has expressed the desire to have this same experience next year instead of sweltering in the overheated auditorium”!
The many candid photos at the pop ups all have one thing in common - beaming smiles. To parents, supporters, the City of Oak Bay, sponsors and friends who took the plunge with me and created a pop up - you tried something innovative and facilitated a priceless bucket full of smiling memories.
To the grads, you “went with it” and enthusiastically decorated your cars and were eager to be surprised and searching for Nutty. To Zach Charlesworth (aka YouTube extraordinaire) and Paris Ford, our valedictorians thank you for being the “V” cars in the cavalcades.
As a result of every contribution made, every effort expended every kind word of encouragement and support "our pandemic lump of coal" was transformed into diamonds celebrating the Class of 2020!
No doubt about it - “We made History!”
